KUALA LUMPUR: Why the silence from DAP leaders over the outcome of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's graft case where he was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal, asks Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

"Everyone is now talking about this.

"But where are the voices that defend justice such as former Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang, where is YB Bagan (Lim Guan Eng), where is YB Damanasara (Gobind Singh Deo) and the others.

"They had previously talked about justice to defend the rakyat but now on the DNAA, they are totally silent," the Opposition chief whip said when debating the 12th Malaysia Plan in Parliament on Tuesday (Sept 12).

Takiyuddin said the case had even caught the attention of foreign media which described it as having a negative impact on the nation and the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

On Sept 4, Ahmad Zahid was granted a discharge not amounting to acquittal for 47 graft charges related to Yayasan Akalbudi funds.

Former attorney general Tan Sri Idrus Harun has since come under fire for the DNAA and will be called to explain the decision to a Parliamentary Special Select Committee.

Earlier, during debates, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) said that the Opposition wanted the issue involving Ahmad Zaid's DNAA to be debated in Parliament.

He said the was a public perception that there was outside influences which resulted in DNAA.

Wan Ahmad Fayshal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) said that the Attorney-General should provide Parliament with a list of corruption cases which have been withdrawn to allow the public to know.
